With internationalization feature, you can create content for a single WonderPage in multiple languages. Depending on the language setting in your mobile app the respective localized AR content is displayed when scanning the target image of this WonderPage.
Note: this feature is not available in all editions of genARate Studio but depends on the licensing package you buy.
In order to set up a WonderPage content in multiple languages, please open the WonderPage in genARate Studio on your computer.
There is one language set as “default” value and also this default language will be displayed on the mobile app as long as the language settings there remain untouched.
If you want to add a new language first you have to click on the “(default)” language in the toolbar. Second, click on ‘ADD NEW LANGUAGE’. Then a new box will pop up where you can define some settings:
In the settings pop up window you can chose from the list of languages that are available for genARate App:
Once you choose the language (in our example “German”) you have an option to ‘Start from scratch’ or ‘Copy elements’
Start from scratch
With the function ‘start from scratch’ all your augmentations from another language will not be copied.
Click ‘OK’ to start adding your new augmentations in the selected language.
Now you can create new augmentations and can e.g. add the text in German language (or add some German pictures etc.).
If you want your augmentations to be copied from another language then click on ‘Copy elements’ in the settings box. This has the advantage that you do not need to start from scratch for building an augmentation in a different language (which makes sense if all pages look very similar and e.g. only some text is different from one language to the other).
You can of course only copy elements from the languages where you have created augmentations before. In the example below, you see that the content for the new Italian page is copied from the English site – that’s why after clicking “ok” the new page is created with showing the textbox “Wine is great”. You could now start changing the text into “Il vino è fantastico” and could e.g. add some other Italian content.
Publishing Internationalized content
First, you need to click on the ‘save’ button in the upper right corner to save the project.
Second, click ‘Publish’ and a new window will pop up. Here you have an option to choose which language you want to publish. You can select ‘all’ or click on each language separately. As we mentioned previously there is always one language set as “default” so you would not be able to publish the project if you don’t select it.
After publishing process is finished, a confirmation message appears on your screen in the lower right corner.
Now close the WonderPage and make sure that both, your WonderPage and your project, show the green ‘Published’ tag in the overview. To know more about publishing and pending status click here.
Green color indicates which language is published.
Red color indicates that the language is unpublished.
As soon as both, the project and the WonderPage, are published, your WonderPage will be recognized and AR content will be displayed according to the language settings on your mobile app.
Set content language on mobile app
The App user interface is the same as the language of the device’s operating system.
To set the language on your phone click on the ‘settings’.
Inside the settings of the mobile app, you will find a section ‘Language’
There you see a list where you can choose the language in which you would prefer to receive AR content.
